Choosing Good Furniture for Your Home

Posted by admin on Jun-21-2011

Furniture tells a lot about a person’s home. It may be utilitarian in its primary purpose but it should also say something about your personal style. It would be good then to discover your own sense of style so that you already know what you really want once you begin buying furniture.

Aside from the furniture that you grew up with in your parent’s house, you become exposed to different types of furniture by visiting other people’s houses or by seeing them in stores. You may notice that seeing furniture, sitting on it, eating on it, and using it can evoke feelings in you. You may feel comfortable the instant you feel the padded cushions of a recliner support you or you may also feel irritated in an awkward chair. From these feelings you can begin to see your own sense of style and a general idea of what you like.

You can also broaden your exposure to furniture by browsing through home décor magazines and websites. These can help you to form your vision of your home and how you want it to look. Pay attention to the details and take notes. Choose a color scheme to your liking.

Take your existing space into consideration. Look at the layout of the room, its area, and the overall style that you want your home to look. Also consider your lifestyle. If you will have kids up and about then think of sturdy and lasting furniture.

You can now begin choosing good furniture for your home.

Halloween All Around You

You do not need to spend so much many on renting or making your kids’ Halloween costumes. You may not know it, but a Halloween costume is just waiting to be put together in your own house. You only need to look at the different things in your house and with very little cost you can use everyday items to create a great costume.

You can easily use different colored sheets or pillowcases to make costumes. For instance, white sheets are great to use for ghosts or angel dresses. Black sheets, on the other hand, can be used as witch’s dresses, skeletons, even for a black Spider Man. Pastel sheets can be used for a princess or fairy dress while a bright blue one will do well for a Superman costume. On the other hand, if you don’t want to cut up your sheets, you can still use them as wraps for a Roman toga, an Indian sari, or it can be tacked into a glamour dress shape.

Average sized pillowcases can also be used for costumes, especially those to be worn by toddlers. A bigger pillowcase can be used as a tunic by an adult.

Old swimsuits made of Lycra are also excellent materials for making bat’s wings that are shaped by wires. Put together pieces of Lycra for bigger projects that can give your bat a tattered and broken wing.
Be creative, walk around your house and wait for inspiration to strike as you see different household materials that can be used for your costumes.
